How a sandwich made for a girlfriend in 2020 became a Los Angeles lunch staple.

Our story

It started with one sandwich.

In May 2020, our founder Avi Ahdoot made a sandwich for his girlfriend and posted a photo of it on Instagram. The picture took off, and with no restaurant experience at all, he started making sandwiches for friends from home and taking orders by DM.

That sandwich became the Tuna Chop: tuna, avocado and a whole chopped salad with pepperoncini and red wine vinaigrette, packed into toasted ciabatta. It's still the one everybody orders.

Today our home is a little green cafe at 8432 W 3rd St in Beverly Grove, open every day for breakfast, lunch, coffee and matcha. Our second cafe, Carla Cafe @ Watt Plaza, is at 1925 Century Park East in Century City.

What started as DMing your order is now online ordering for pickup at both cafes, Postmates delivery and catering packages for offices and events of 10 to 100 people. Package prices and dietary options are in our FAQ.

Food, coffee & matcha. Every day.

Why Carla

Three things we're known for.

  1. The Tuna Chop

The sandwich that started it all: pole & line-caught tuna, avocado and a full chopped salad on toasted ciabatta with pesto aioli.

  2. Good ingredients

Organic chicken, pole & line-caught tuna, burrata, nut-free pesto aioli and a Caesar dressing we make ourselves.

  3. Catering for 10 to 100

Half-sandwich and salad packages for offices and events, with kosher, gluten-free, dairy-free and vegetarian requests accommodated.
